Dubai Metro opening: the future begins now

ASIA, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, DUBAI, 09.09.2009 / on the fast track: built in just 4 years with the help of 30000 construction workers, the Dubai Metro was opened on 09.09.09, at 9pm, 9 minutes and 9 seconds by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. These young women are enjoying to be part of this historic day - they are winners of a Golden Ticket, which gave them a chance to ride the metro on its inauguration night, along with VIPs and members of the media. It has to be seen if they will continue to use the metro - with cheap gasoline prices, the car is still the first option for most residents. The Dubai Metro will have special compartments for women and children.
